Over Confidence vs Low Confidence
Understanding the delicate balance between overconfidence and low confidence across student preparation, revision, and self-validation.
It is important to maintain a balance between over and low confidence, as sometimes the line between the two is very thin. Let us try to understand difference between them, on the bases of students, parent and educator’s observation, with below mention few common scenario where student’s behavior have directly or indirectly reflects their confidence level.
When we have read a topic thoroughly and now we feel that, we can attempt the answer or are ready to hit the examination hall and totally ignoring to practice via writing answers, we might be over confidence. When we are keen to writing and keep on writing that answers ‘n’ times even when we are able to recall and quote it right within few attempts, we might be low confidence. We appreciate all our strong beliefs and highly recommend practicing by writing answers and not just by practicing verbally within word and time limits for right number of times to build your right confidence balance.
When we feel, we can directly write in exam, by just listing to your mentor(s) once or twice and afterwards not revising our self, we might be over confidence. When we are keen to revise same content repeatedly even when we are able to recall and quote it right after practicing it for few attempts, we might be low confidence. Listing a content make us convinced to grasp for that movement but recalling it on exam sheet may become difficult without revising our self hence, we highly recommend every student to convert those listing into recall movements by performing self-revision.
When we have understand a topic well but have never try to speak or write our self, believing that we are all set to hit the exams, we might be over confidence. When we are repeatedly in hunt of peoples to share our understanding even when we are able to express well after practicing few attempts, we might be low confidence. One of the biggest reason for scoring high is explaining or expressing answers correctly on our answers sheet or at the time to viva hence we highly recommend every student to express ones understanding and answers with others or to self both verbally and in written until we are on right track.
When we learn content directly without even bothering to understand its real life implementation and feel no urge or any need to understand it before or after learning, we might be over confidence. When we are too keen to know logic behind a statement, we generally start thinking too deep losing our focus towards end objective by allow negative thoughts to build in our mind and feeling that it cannot be done, we might be low confidence. We highly appreciate deep thinking but when we are not able to relate or satisfy actual importance of a text, we must not stop our efforts, as this is the time to be more creative and innovative, we will suggest trying concept of design thinking and not just deep thinking.
When we have complete our syllabus, with time to witness your exams, and we decide to revises when exam are near, we might be over confidence. When we avoid taking our meal on time or ignore our health in fear of not completing our syllabus, we might be low confidence. Leave things for last movement or becoming out of touch is another big reason to not perform as per are potential. We recommend spending less but never losing a touch of any subject even after completion of syllabus by regularly practicing previous year papers, mock test and solving different flavors of questions on same topic as per published guidelines.
When we do not bother to validate our answers and keep assuming that we have quoted right answers, we might be over confidence. When we are in habit to know direct answers, without even trying to reach a solution or giving few extra attempts to solve a question, we might be low confidence. Self-solving capability is one of the blessed talent, which everyone must upscale in his or her life, it not only make us feel happy but can be key element to heal any problem.
In simple words, we can say that ignoring required practices depicts over confidence whereas excess of practice or over run a task indicates low confidence and maintaining right balance among them have proven many success stories.
Always remember “samajh aana, jaad karna, likhna ek bat h or exam guidelines k hasab se examsheet m likhna bilkul alag bat h, number lana, jadu nahe mahenat or kismet k kam ha, over confidence aur low confidence m balance k nam h”.
